SDP On The Way In Esslingen (5) - The Castle

Hoch über Esslingen wacht die Burg über die Alte Reichsstadt. Dorthin hat mich meine Exkursion natürlich auch geführt.

There is an impressive castle on a hill in Esslingen. It is watching over the former imperial town and was the objective of my excursion.

Viele Wege führen auf die Burg. Ich habe mich für die recht steile Burgsteige entschieden.

Many roads lead to the castle. I've decided on the steeply rising footpath named Burgsteige.

Wenn man wieder zu Atem gekommen ist, kann man die herrliche Burganlage genießen. Im "Dicken Turm" links gibt es auch ein rustikales Restaurant.

When you're recovered your breath you should enjoy the magnificent castle complex. There is rustic restaurant in the tower on the left. It is named "Dicker Turm" (bulky tower).

Hinunter geht es auf diesen Stufen der Burgstaffel.

If you are not claustrophobic you should leave the castle on these steps of the Burgstaffel.

Da hat sich Starbucks wirklich einen herrlichen Ort zum Chillen ausgesucht.

The Starbucks coffee shop has chosen a wonderful place for chilling.

SDP On The Way In Esslingen (3) - The Last Tower

Das ist der Pliensau-Turm. Ursprünglich standen hier drei Türme, zwei wurden 1819 und 1837 abgebrochen.

This is a tower named Pliensauturm. It's one of originally three towers. Two of them were demolished in 1819 and 1837.

Esslingen hat jede Menge alte und wunderschöne Häuser. Das Fachwerkhaus im Vordergrund steht auf einer kleinen Insel eines Seitenarmes des Neckars. Die Kirche im Hintergrund ist die evangelische Stadtkirche St. Dionys.

There are many old and picturesque buildings in Esslingen. The half-timbered house in the foreground is situated on a small island at a branch of the Neckar river. The church in the background is Esslingen's Protestant parish church named St Dionys.

SDP On The Way In Esslingen (1) - Mrs. Merkel's Villa?

Die 'Villa Merkel' in Esslingen ist nicht Zweitwohnsitz unserer Bundeskanzlerin. Das Gebäude wurde 1873 für den Esslinger Industriellen Oskar Merkel erbaut. Heute gehört es der Stadt Esslingen und wird für Kunstausstellungen genutzt.

This is a building named "Villa Merkel". It's situated in Essling and it's not the secondary residence of present Federal Chancellor Mrs. Angela Merkel. This building was built in 1873 for the Esslingen industrialist Mr. Oskar Merkel. Today it is owned by the city of Esslingen and is used for art exhibitons.

Impressions From Esslingen's Christmas Market

Gestern waren wir in Esslingen am Neckar. Natürlich haben wir den Weihnachtsmarkt und den Mittelaltermarkt besucht. Wir waren begeistert, insbesondere der Mittelaltermarkt mit seinen typischen Attraktionen hat uns sehr gefallen. Ein Besuch lohnt sich in jedem Falle. Gerade bei Einbruch der Dunkelheit ist es dort sehr stimmungsvoll.

Yesterday we were in Esslingen which is located on the Neckar River, about 14 km southeast of Stuttgart city centre. We've visited the Christmas Market and the Medieval Market. We were stoked about them. In particular we enjoyed the Medieval Market and its specific attractions. A visit of these two wonderful markets is worthwhile. They're very atmospheric right in the evening.

Das ist das große Einrichtungshaus in Esslingen-Sirnau, wo wir unsere Küche für die neue Wohnung bestellt haben. Mitten auf der grünen Wiese steht das Gebäude.

This is the large furniture store in Esslingen where we've bought the kitchen for our new appartement. The store was built in the open countryside.

Der Haupteingang ist sehr imposant. Links im Bild die Fensterreihe, hinter der sich das Restaurant befindet. Überraschend gutes Essen und herrliche Aussicht.

This is the store's imposing main entrance. Do you see the line of windows on the left? Behind it there is a restaurant where you get a square meal and an impressive sight.

Zwei Ansichten auf die katholische Kirche St. Michael in Esslingen-Sirnau. Gerade mal 52 Jahre alt ist sie.

Two views to the Catholic church named St Michael in Esslingen-Sirnau. The church is just about 52 years old.

Zum 50-jährigen Jubiläum gab es diesen riesigen hölzernen Blumenkasten.
Maybe this was a present for the 50th anniversary, a giant wooden flower box.

Blick auf das "Hofgut" in Esslingen-Sirnau. Dort kann man Sträucher, Bäume und Blumen kaufen. Gut, dass meine Geldbörse gerade recht dünn ist, ich wäre nämlich sonst "schwach" geworden ...

View to the court estate in Sirnau, a part of Esslingen. It is used as a nursery where you can buy saplings, shrubs and flowers. I saw many interesting things but fortunately my wallet is one a shoestring.

Das Hofgut war früher einmal Teil eines Klosters. Das Gebäude könnte vielleicht als Schule (wegen der Glocke) genutzt worden sein.

In former times this area was part of a monastery. The pictured building was possibly used as a school.
