SDP On The Way In Esslingen (3) - The Last Tower

Das ist der Pliensau-Turm. Ursprünglich standen hier drei Türme, zwei wurden 1819 und 1837 abgebrochen.

This is a tower named Pliensauturm. It's one of originally three towers. Two of them were demolished in 1819 and 1837.

SDP On The Way In Esslingen (2) - Examples

Esslingen hat jede Menge alte und wunderschöne Häuser. Das Fachwerkhaus im Vordergrund steht auf einer kleinen Insel eines Seitenarmes des Neckars. Die Kirche im Hintergrund ist die evangelische Stadtkirche St. Dionys.

There are many old and picturesque buildings in Esslingen. The half-timbered house in the foreground is situated on a small island at a branch of the Neckar river. The church in the background is Esslingen's Protestant parish church named St Dionys.

SDP On The Way In Esslingen (1) - Mrs. Merkel's Villa?

Die 'Villa Merkel' in Esslingen ist nicht Zweitwohnsitz unserer Bundeskanzlerin. Das Gebäude wurde 1873 für den Esslinger Industriellen Oskar Merkel erbaut. Heute gehört es der Stadt Esslingen und wird für Kunstausstellungen genutzt.

This is a building named "Villa Merkel". It's situated in Essling and it's not the secondary residence of present Federal Chancellor Mrs. Angela Merkel. This building was built in 1873 for the Esslingen industrialist Mr. Oskar Merkel. Today it is owned by the city of Esslingen and is used for art exhibitons.

Stammheim

Wolken, Wind, etwas Regen - genau das richtige Wetter für einen stimmungsvollen Spaziergang um die JVA Stammheim herum. Es ist ein ganz normaler "Knast". Aber an diesem Ort wurde Geschichte geschrieben. Denn hier fanden die Prozesse gegen RAF-Mitglieder statt, die hier auch inhaftiert waren. Und verfilmt wurde das Ganze auch.

We had clouds, wind and drizzle. It was the right weather for an atmospheric walk aroud the Stammheim prison. It is an ordinary "stir" but there was history in the making. Some trials against  terrorists of the RAF (Red Armee Fraction) took place here. They were also detained here. These events were picturized too.

Man kann die JVA völlig umrunden.

A Historic Place

Unterhalb des Teehauses befindet sich der im Jahre 1913 fertiggestellte Marmorsaal. Die Unternehmerfamilie von Sieglin ließ ihn errichten und nutzte ihn als festlichen Gartensaal. Heute steht er für Veranstaltungen, z.B. Konzerte oder private Feiern, zur Verfügung.

There is the Marmorsaal (marble hall) under the tea house. The hall was completed in 1913. The Stuttgart entrepreneurial family von Sieglin had it built and has used it for a festive garden hall. Today the marble hall is used for events like concerts or private parties.

Auf dem Dach des Marmorsaales befand sich ein Tennisplatz, umrandet von einem schönen weißen Zaun.

There was a tennis court on the roof the marble hall. A wonderful white fence encloses the court.

A Monument To Mr. Naegele

Reinhold Nägele war ein deutscher Maler und Grafiker. Auf dem Killesberg ist auch eine Straße nach ihm benannt worden.

Reinhold Naegele (1884 - 1972) was a German painter and illustrator. He was born in Murrhardt which is located 40 km northeast of Stuttgart where he died as well. There is also a street at the Killesberg which was named after him.

After The Tea

Ein schönes Plätzchen für den Teegenuss ist auch diese Anhöhe gleich neben dem Teehaus. Die Aussicht von dort ist phänomenal.

This hill near the tea-house could be a wonderful place for your tea-enjoyment too. The view is really phenomenal.

Tea For Two

Das Teehaus im Weissenburgpark hat momentan Winterpause. Das ist auch gut, so hat man den Ort ganz für sich allein.

The tea house at the Weissenburg park's knob is in its off-season in the moment. It's great because it is a silent place now.

Impressions From Yesterday's Grand Opening

Nach fast 4-jähriger Bauzeit fährt die U15 nun wieder ohne Unterbechung zwischen Ruhbank und Stammheim. Der Streckenabschnitt zwischen Zuffenhausen und Stammheim wurde modernisiert und zum Teil unter die Erde verlegt. Es gab gestern ein riesiges Fest für Groß und Klein sowohl in Zuffenhausen als auch in Stammheim. Man konnte zudem kostenlos zwischen Kelterplatz und Stammheim hin und her fahren.

After nearly 4 years of construction time the city railway line U15 runs from Ruhbank to Stammheim without interruption. The track section between Zuffenhausen and Stammheim was modernized. The trains run partly underground now. Therefore there were great festivities for persons of all ages in Zuffenhausen and Stammheim. Train rides between the stations Kelterplatz and Stammheim were for free.

Wieder zurück, nehmen wir den anderen Weg. Zuerst wird die Bopserwaldstraße, die hier in die Hohenheimer Straße mündet, überquert.

We are back at yesterday's starting point and take the other path. At first we cross the Bopserwaldstrasse, which ends in the Hohenheimer Strasse.

Wir sind im Weissenburgpark. Ein herrlicher Park mit unzähligen Wegen und Bänken zum Verweilen. Ziel ist die Anhöhe des Parks.

We are in the Weissenburg park. It is a wonderful place with innumerable walkways and benches to stay for a while. Our aim is the park's knob.

Ways (1)

Nicht weit weg von den Bopser-Anlagen kommt man an eine Stelle, wo man sich entscheiden muss. Am besten, man erklimmt zuerst die paar Treppenstufen des Bopserweges zur Bopserwaldstraße und sieht sich etwas um.

Not far from the Bopser park there is a place where you have to decide which way you want to go. The best way is to climb the steps of the Bopserweg. At the top there is the Bopserwaldstrasse to look around.

Dieses Haus ist mir schon von weitem aufgefallen. Erst dachte ich, es sei eine Kirche, weil es diesen Turm hat. Ein wunderschönes Wohnhaus ist es.

This building has caught my eyes from a distance yet. At first I thought it could be a church because of its spire. But is is a picturesque apartement house.

Cosy Places For The Next Year

Zur Zeit sind die Bänke verwaist, schließlich war es Ende November, als das Foto entstand.

Friedrich List zu Ehren wurde in den Bopser-Anlagen diese Büste errichtet. Bildhauer war Daniel Stocker.

A First Impression Of The Park

Das ist das Bopserbrünnele. Leider ist er, wie die meisten Brunnen in Stuttgart, abgestellt worden.

This is the Bopser fountain. It's shut off like many other fountains in Stuttgart.

Einen umfangreichen Spielplatz gibt es auch.
There is also a wide children's playground.

Und schließlich gibt es auch einen Platz, der eine wunderschöne Aussicht bietet.
At last there is a lookout which affords a wonderful view.

The Park At Busy Street

Blick auf den Park von der Haltestelle. Die eigentlich vielbefahrene Straße, die hier vorbeiführt, ist die Hohenheimer Straße. Ich hatte Glück und nutzte die Pause für das Foto.

Stuttgart's Staeffele #7: Between Hohenheimer Strasse And Dobelstrasse

Auch diese Staffel hat keinen eigenen Namen, sondern ist Teil der Sonnenbergstraße, die von der Hohenheimer Straße, beim Bethesda Krankenhaus, abgeht. Es sind überschaubare 43 Stufen zu bewältigen.

This 'Staffel' hasn't its own name too. It is part of the Sonnenbergstrasse which diverges from the Hohenheimer Strasse at the Bethesda hospital. You have to tackle only 43 steps.

Art At The Bopserwaldstrasse

Das ist Elsa, die Badekuh. Da in der Stadt der Platz für Kühe rar ist, steht diese auf einem Garagendach.

This is Elsa, the bathing cow. Elsa is standing on a garage roof because there isn't enough place for cows in Stuttgart.

Hoffentlich springt sie nicht. Sie würde ihr blaues Wunder erleben.
I hope she will not jump. She would get a nasty surprise.

So, das war ein erster Eindruck von der Bopserwaldstraße. Ich werde mir für diese Straße extra mal frei nehmen und diese entlanglaufen. Mal schauen, was es hier noch für Überraschungen gibt. Es gab Fragen zum Begriff BOPSER. Der Name Bopser stammt von einem Ort namens Bubsingen oder Bobsingen ab. Es gibt in Stuttgart eine Stadtbahnhaltestelle gleichen Namens, und eben dort hat sich dieser Ort auch befunden. Natürlich war ich dort auch schon zum Fotografieren.

This was a first impression from the Bopserwaldstrasse. I will take a day off to walk along this street. If there will be more interesting and exciting motifs? Let's wait and see. Some visitors asked for the meaning of "BOPSER". The name Bopser comes from a location named Bubsingen or Bobsingen. There is also a light rail station named Bopser and near this station there was this location. I've already visited this place and of course I've made some photos.

Hier der "Beweis", dass man den Namen der Straße, nämlich Bopserwaldstraße, übersetzen kann. Ein Bewohner hat sich extra ein Schild fertigen lassen.

This is the proof! It's possible to translate the name of the street Bopserwaldstrasse. A astute resident had this plate manufactured.

Stuttgart's Staeffele #6: From Dobelstrasse To Bopserwaldstrasse (2)

Ungefähr in der Mitte des Weges von der Neefstraße zur Bopserwaldstraße befindet sich der Dobelgarten. Er gehört zur evangelischen Ludwig-Hofacker-Gemeinde und wird hauptsächlich für Ferienfreizeiten für Kinder zwischen 6 und 13 Jahren genutzt.

There is the Dobelgarten about in the middle of the path between Neefstrasse and Bopserwaldstrasse (Bopserwood Road). The Dobelgarten is owned by the Protestant church. It is used for holiday camps for children of 6 to 13.

Wenn wir auf der Bopserwaldstraße angekommen sind, haben wir sage und schreibe 275 Stufen bewältigt. Darauf können wir stolz sein!

When we are at the Bopserwaldstrasse we've tackled no less than 275 steps. We can be proud of it.

Meine "Action Shots" habe ich auf dem Esslinger Mittelaltermarkt gemacht, auf dem große und kleine Besucher zum Mitmachen eingeladen werden.

My action shots are from the Medieval Market in Esslingen. Adult persons and kids were invited to demonstrate their skills.
