Gutting

Das Wilhelmspalais am Charlottenplatz, Wohnsitz des letzten württembergischen Königs Wilhelm II., wird zur Zeit entkernt. Irgendwann soll dort das Stadtmuseum untergebracht werden.

The Wilhelmspalais is situated at Charlottenplatz. It was the residence of the last Wuerttemberg king Wilhelm II. After its rebuilding it will open as the town museum.

A High-Tech Sector

Wie ich schon mal erwähnt habe, hat der Deutsche Wetterdienst in Stuttgart auf dem Schnarrenberg eine Niederlassung. Auf dem Grundstück steht viel moderne Technik.

As I've already mentioned here the Deutsche Wetterdienst (German Weather Service) has a location in Stuttgart on the Schnarrenberg. The plot is full of high-tech.

The House Of Mr. Walser

In diesem Haus in der Gerberstraße 2a wohnte in den Jahren 1895/96 der Schweizer Dichter Robert Walser.
The pictured house is situated at Gerberstraße. The Swiss writer Robert Walser lived here in the years 1895/96.

A Unique Housing Area

Die Weissenhofsiedlung ist vielen an Architektur Interessierten ein Begriff. Unter der Leitung von Mies van der Rohe haben bekannte Architekten ein wirklich einmaliges Wohnquartier geschaffen. Mehr Informationen zu Geschichte der Siedlung und Besuchsmöglichkeiten gibt es hier.

The Weissenhofsiedlung (Weissenhof housing estate) is well known to all who are interested in architecture. Many famous architects under direction of Mies van der Rohe have established a really unique housing area. Please read here more about the history of this settlement and visiting possibilities.

Ich habe noch nicht alle Gebäude der Weissenhofsiedlung gesehen. Aber dieses Gebäude mit seinem imposanten Turm gehört zu meinen Favouriten.

I haven't seen all buildings of the Weissenhofsiedlung. But this building is my favourite because of its impressive tower.

View Through The Trees

Durch die Bäume erhascht man einen Blick auf die Elise von König-Schule. Freifrau Elise von König lebte von 1843 bis 1919 und hat sich insbesondere für das Bildungswesen stark gemacht. Deshalb hat sie auch ihr Grundstück, auf dem die heutige Schule steht, für den Schulhausbau überlassen. 

Through the trees you can see a schoolhouse named Elise von König-Schule. Dame Elise von König lived from 1843 to 1919. She was a sponsor of the education system. So she has founded her property for the construction of a schoolhouse. Now the present building is on this plot.

The Contested House

Das Wengerterhaus in der Firnhaber Straße, vis-a-vis von den wilden Kreaturen, ist zur Zeit heftig umstritten. Einige wollen es abreißen lassen, andere wollen es an genau der Stelle erhalten und wieder andere wollen es wenigstens abtragen und an anderer Stelle wieder aufbauen lassen. In Stuttgart wird leider viel zu schnell abgerissen, um noch mehr Büros und noch mehr Konsumtempel zu bauen. Das ist wirklich schade.

This old winegrower's house (Wengerterhaus) is situated at Firnhaber Straße vis-à-vis the yesterday's fierce creatures. The building is highly controversial because it is threatened with demolition. There are many people who want to save it or to rebuild it elsewhere. Many old buildings were demolished to build even more modern office buildings or cathedrals of consumption. It's really a great pity.

The Famous Villa

The Information Tower

The overhead hopper at the Pragsattel is artwork and information board. But the building was also modernized and upgraded for protecting the civil population in case of a catastrophe. Free of any catastrophe you can drink a beer in a tavern at the foot of the hopper. Cheers!

This impressive doorway belongs to a more impressive building. If you would buy a Mercedes Benz car you should ask this financial institution for favourable conditions.

Two Sides Of The Same Building

So sieht die Vorderseite des Rathauses aus. Links oben befindet sich der Sitzungssaal.

This is the front side of the town hall. Top left there is the assembly hall.

Die Rückseite an der Neuen Brücke zeigt, wie das Rathaus vor der Zerstörung im Zweiten Weltkrieg ausgesehen hat.

The back side at the street named Neue Brücke is suggestive of the look before the partial demolition in the WWII.

Stuttgart Doorways #15

Diese Türen oder Tore gehören zum Rathaus der Stadt Stuttgart. Das linke ist der Haupteingang des Gebäudes, die beiden anderen werden wohl als Ausgänge benutzt.

These doors are part of the town hall of Stuttgart. The left one is the main entrance of that building. The others are used possibly as exits.

Stammheim

Wolken, Wind, etwas Regen - genau das richtige Wetter für einen stimmungsvollen Spaziergang um die JVA Stammheim herum. Es ist ein ganz normaler "Knast". Aber an diesem Ort wurde Geschichte geschrieben. Denn hier fanden die Prozesse gegen RAF-Mitglieder statt, die hier auch inhaftiert waren. Und verfilmt wurde das Ganze auch.

We had clouds, wind and drizzle. It was the right weather for an atmospheric walk aroud the Stammheim prison. It is an ordinary "stir" but there was history in the making. Some trials against  terrorists of the RAF (Red Armee Fraction) took place here. They were also detained here. These events were picturized too.

Man kann die JVA völlig umrunden.

The Trees

Diese zwei riesigen Akazien stehen vor dem Rathaus von Zuffenhausen. Der Platz vor dem Rathaus ist schön schattig - vor allem im Sommer eine Wohltat.

These two giant acacia are standing in front of the town-hall of Zuffenhausen. The trees afford shade to the people. It is primarily a good deed in the summer.

Die Liebe höret nimmer auf

Es ist kein Observatorium und kein Kloster, wie vermutet wurde. Es ist eine Grabkapelle bzw. Mausoleum, erbaut von König Wilhelm I. von Württemberg für seine früh verstorbene Frau Katharina Pawlowna, eine Tochter des russischen Zaren Paul. König Wilhelm und eine Tochter sind hier ebenfalls bestattet worden.

It is not an observatory and not a monastery as assumed. It is a funerary chapel which was built by king Wilhelm (William) the First of Württemberg for his early dead wife Katharina Pawlowna. Katharina was a daughter of the Russian tsar Paul. The king and a daughter of Wilhelm and Katharina are entombed here too.

Über allen vier Türen sind Texte oder Sprüche eingelassen worden. Einer der schönsten ist wohl "Die Liebe höret nimmer auf". Obwohl König Wilhelm während seiner Ehe mit Katharina Liebschaften gehabt haben soll, hat er seine Ehefrau doch von ganzem Herzen geliebt.

There are phrases over all four doors of the mausoleum. One of the loveliest is "Love never ends". It is supposed that king Wilhelm had some love affairs during his marriage with Katharina. This building is a demonstration that Wilhelm was devoted to Katharina.

Who Is Doctor House?

Auf dem Burgholzhof, einem Stadtteil von Bad Cannstatt, befindet sich wohl das bekannteste Krankenhaus der Stadt, das Robert-Bosch-Krankenhaus (RBK).

There is probably the best known hospital at the Burgholzhof. The Burgholzhof is a quarter of Bad Cannstatt and the name of the hospital is Robert-Bosch-Krankenhaus.

Die Kelter in Rohracker. Die "Weingärtnergenossenschaft Rohracker e.G." verkauft hier ihre Weine, in dem Gebäude finden aber auch diverse Feierlichkeiten statt.

The wine press house in Rohracker. The vine dresser's association of Rohracker sells their wines here. The building is also used for many festivities all about wine. There are the spring winetasting on April, 9th and the installation of the Maypole on April, 29th. You can participate in the annual vine field day on May, 8th.
