He Likes To Devour Roses

Ein Löwe zum Verlieben. Das Hinterteil links gehört zu Felix, auch er hatte keine Angst mehr vor dem Raubtier.

Diese Figurengruppe steht vor dem Landesmuseum Württemberg an der Münzstraße, gegenüber vom Karlsplatz.

These figures stand at the museum named "Landesmuseum Württemberg". It is situated at Münzstraße vis-à-vis Karlsplatz.

Die linke Figur heißt "Marsyas I", die mittlere "Hommage à Sonny Liston" und die rechte "Sterbender". Alle  stammen sie von dem österreichischen Bildhauer Alfred Hrdlicka.

The figures from the left to the right are named "Marsyas I", "Hommage à Sonny Liston" and "Sterbender". All statues are made by the Austrian artist Alfred Hrdlicka.

Giant Ashlars For The Remembrance

Diese Skulptur ist ein Mahnmal zur Erinnerung an die Opfer der nationalsozialistischen Gewaltherrschaft und befindet sich auf dem Stauffenbergplatz zwischen Landesmuseum und Karlsplatz. Es wurde 1970 von Elmar Daucher gestaltet. Folgender Text dazu stammt von Ernst Bloch:

Millionen Opfer der Nationalsozialistischen Gewaltherrschaft beschwören Dich

Niemals wieder

This sculpture is a memorial. It is commemorate the dead of the National Socialist tyranny. You could find it at Stauffenbergplatz between Landesmuseum and Karlsplatz. The memorial was designed in 1970 by Elmar Daucher. The following words are penned by Ernst Bloch:

Ostracized - Casted Out - Crucified - Slain - Hanged - Gased

Million victims of the Nazi tyranny conjure you

Diese Maschine wurde zu einem Kunstwerk umfunkioniert und steht nun vor der Steinbeisschule, eine gewerbliche Schule für Bautechnik, in S-Nord.

This machine was channeled into an artwork. It is situated in front of a vocational school for civil engineering named Steinbeisschule in the North of Stuttgart.

The Seeker

Diese Skulptur steht neben der evangelischen Dreifaltigkeitskirche in der Elbestraße. Es sieht so aus, als ob die Frau nach jemandem schaut. Vielleicht wartet sie auf ihren Mann, damit beide endlich ihren Platz in der Kirche einnehmen können. Der Gottesdienst wird ja gleich beginnen....

This sculpture is situated beside the Protestant Trinity Church at Elbestraße. It seems that the woman is waiting for her husband. Maybe they want to attend the church service.

Ora Et Labora

Seht nur, was dieser Mönch da schleppen muss. Der Sage nach soll es sich um einen zirka 10 Zentner schweren Stein handeln. Und diesen Stein soll er von Münster nach Mühlhausen getragen haben. Eine Hinweistafel gleich neben der Skulptur erzählt die ganze Geschichte. Die Skulptur wurde von dem in Münster am Neckar geborenen Künstler Peter Sonder erschaffen.

Look what this monk has to carry. As legend has it that it was a stone which has weighed around 10 hundredweights (around 500 kilos). So he had to tow this stone from Münster to Mühlhausen. There is an information board with interesting facts beside this sculpture. The sculpture was made by Mr. Peter Sonder who was born in Münster.

What Is He Looking For?

Dieser verwitterte Knabe schaut wohl dem morgigen Thementag "Bäckerei" erwartungsvoll entgegen. Gefunden habe ich das Kerlchen in der Richard-Wagner-Straße.

This weathered boy is definitely looking forward to tomorrow's monthly theme day with keen anticipation. I've found this cheeky little bugger at Richard-Wagner-Straße.

The Sculpture In The Killesberg Park

I hope the park management will initiate a systematic cleaning of that sculpture. It looks kinda aesthetic.

A Monument To Mr. Naegele

Reinhold Nägele war ein deutscher Maler und Grafiker. Auf dem Killesberg ist auch eine Straße nach ihm benannt worden.

Reinhold Naegele (1884 - 1972) was a German painter and illustrator. He was born in Murrhardt which is located 40 km northeast of Stuttgart where he died as well. There is also a street at the Killesberg which was named after him.

Help Him, Please

Der Name dieser Statue lautet "Knabe in Gefahr" und stammt von dem Bildhauer Johann Wilhelm Rösch. Das Original wurde im zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört. Ach ja, der Standort: dieser Bronzeabguss befindet sich zwischen Rathaus und Restaurant "Bootshaus" in Remseck.

The name of the statue is "Boy In Danger" and is the work of the sculptor Johann Wilhelm Roesch of Wuerttemberg. The original sculpture was destroyed in WW2. This is a bronze replica and it is situated between town-hall and restaurant "Bootshaus" in Remseck.

Zwei Details der Statue. Hätte ich von der Statue gewusst, dann hätte ich selbstverständlich auch die Gefahrenquelle, nämlich ein Insekt, fotografiert.

The Name Of Mühlhausen

Die Mühlstein-Installation am Palmschen Schloss in Mühlhausen soll eine Erinnerung an den Namen des Ortes und der 600-jährigen Geschichte der Mühlhäuser Mühle sein.

This installation of 3 millstones is situated in front of the Mühlhausen castle named Palmsches Schloss. The millstones should remind the visitors of the name of this place and the importance of the mill. The history of the mill goes back more than 600 years.

Felix hat sich auch für die Mühlsteine interessiert. Erklären werde ich sie ihm später einmal.
Felix was also interested in the millstones. I'll explain them to him later.

Concord

Das ist die Jubiläumssäule auf dem Schlossplatz. Sie ist etwa 30 Meter hoch und wurde 1841 errichtet. Ganz oben befindet sich eine Skulptur der Göttin Concordia.

This is the jubilee column at the Schlossplatz. It is around 30 metres high and was built in 1841. There is a sculpture of the concord goddess named Concordia at the top of the column.

You see some details of the socle. The column was built due to the 25th governmental anniversary of King William the First.

May I Introduce This Lady To You?

Bei dieser steinernen Lady handelt es sich um die Figur "Handel" des Bildhauers Adolf Fremd. So ganz sicher ist sich aber da niemand.

This stony lady shall represent the figure named "trading" of the sculptor Mr. Adolf Fremd. But nobody feels confident.

Let's Talk About ...

Dieses "Trio" habe ich in S-Rot entdeckt. Interessanterweise steht diese Skulptur nicht auf einem öffentlichen Platz, sondern auf einem Grundstück für Wohnhäuser. Sie wurde nach dem Werk "Der Ackermann aus Böhmen" von Johannes von Tepl erschafft.

I found this "trio" in Rot, a district in the north of Stuttgart. This sculpture isn't situated on public property but on private with apartement houses. It is modelled on the tale named "The Ploughman From Bohemia" from Johannes von Tepl.

Historical

Das ist der "Mönchstein" auf dem gleichnamigen Platz in "Mönchfeld", oberhalb von Mühlhausen und nur ein paar Minuten von meiner neuen Wohnung entfernt. Dieser Stein war, wie auf einer Platte (links unten im Bild zu sehen) zu entnehmen ist, ein "Zehntgrenzstein zwischen Münster und Mühlhausen an dem uralten Fernweg vom Glemsgau in das Remstal".

This is the "Moenchstein" (monk's stone) on the correspondent place in Moenchfeld, which is situated on a hill to the west of Muehlhausen. The Moenchsteinplatz is a short hop from my new residence. The stone was a landmark between the places named "Muenster" and "Muehlhausen" at the ancient road from "Glemsgau" to the valley named "Remstal".

Diese mit schönen Fliesen verzierten Banken laden zum Verweilen auf dem Mönchsteinplatz ein.

These benches are decorated with colourful tiles and invite you to stay on the Moenchsteinplatz.

The Red Tree

"Roter Baum" - so heißt diese Skulptur von Mariella Mosler. In seiner ganzen Pracht ist das ungewöhnliche "Gewächs" am Wilhelmspalais zu bewundern.

"Red Tree" is the name of the sculpture which was made by Mrs. Mariella Mosler. The sculpture is situated near the Wilhelmspalais.
