Art At The Bopserwaldstrasse

Das ist Elsa, die Badekuh. Da in der Stadt der Platz für Kühe rar ist, steht diese auf einem Garagendach.

This is Elsa, the bathing cow. Elsa is standing on a garage roof because there isn't enough place for cows in Stuttgart.

So, das war ein erster Eindruck von der Bopserwaldstraße. Ich werde mir für diese Straße extra mal frei nehmen und diese entlanglaufen. Mal schauen, was es hier noch für Überraschungen gibt. Es gab Fragen zum Begriff BOPSER. Der Name Bopser stammt von einem Ort namens Bubsingen oder Bobsingen ab. Es gibt in Stuttgart eine Stadtbahnhaltestelle gleichen Namens, und eben dort hat sich dieser Ort auch befunden. Natürlich war ich dort auch schon zum Fotografieren.

This was a first impression from the Bopserwaldstrasse. I will take a day off to walk along this street. If there will be more interesting and exciting motifs? Let's wait and see. Some visitors asked for the meaning of "BOPSER". The name Bopser comes from a location named Bubsingen or Bobsingen. There is also a light rail station named Bopser and near this station there was this location. I've already visited this place and of course I've made some photos.

Hier der "Beweis", dass man den Namen der Straße, nämlich Bopserwaldstraße, übersetzen kann. Ein Bewohner hat sich extra ein Schild fertigen lassen.

This is the proof! It's possible to translate the name of the street Bopserwaldstrasse. A astute resident had this plate manufactured.

Stuttgart's Staeffele #6: From Dobelstrasse To Bopserwaldstrasse (2)

Ungefähr in der Mitte des Weges von der Neefstraße zur Bopserwaldstraße befindet sich der Dobelgarten. Er gehört zur evangelischen Ludwig-Hofacker-Gemeinde und wird hauptsächlich für Ferienfreizeiten für Kinder zwischen 6 und 13 Jahren genutzt.

There is the Dobelgarten about in the middle of the path between Neefstrasse and Bopserwaldstrasse (Bopserwood Road). The Dobelgarten is owned by the Protestant church. It is used for holiday camps for children of 6 to 13.

Wenn wir auf der Bopserwaldstraße angekommen sind, haben wir sage und schreibe 275 Stufen bewältigt. Darauf können wir stolz sein!

When we are at the Bopserwaldstrasse we've tackled no less than 275 steps. We can be proud of it.

Stuttgart's Staeffele #6: From Dobelstrasse To Bopserwaldstrasse (1)

Der Obere Reichelenbergweg ist zwar größtenteils eine Staffel, heißt aber nicht Obere Reichelenbergstaffel. Trotzdem möchte ich den Weg in meiner Staffel-Serie vorstellen. Der Weg führt von der Dobelstraße zur Bopserwaldstraße. Die 1. Etappe geht bis zur Neefstraße, an der Kirche vom gestrigen Beitrag vorbei.

The lane named Oberer Reichelenbergweg is a stony stair (a "Staffel") for the most part but it isn't named Obere Reichelenbergstaffel. Nevertheless I want to present this way within my 'Staeffele' series. Our walk will go from Dobelstrasse to Bopserwaldstrasse (Bopserwood Road). The first leg goes alongside the yesterday's church to the Neefstrasse.

The Church At The Staffel

Das ist die evangelische Ludwig-Hofacker Kirche an der Ecke Dobelstraße und Oberer Reichelenbergweg aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln.

This is the Protestant church named Ludwig-Hofacker Kirche. It is situated at Dobelstrasse and Oberer Reichelenbergweg. I made the photos from different angles.

Stuttgart's Staeffele #5: Dobelstaffel

Die Dobelstaffel ist die Weiterführung der Dobelstraße und führt zur Stafflenbergstraße. Es sind zunächst 89 Stufen zu bewältigen. Wer sich dann nach rechts wendet, hat dann noch 14 Stufen zu laufen. Links sind es 2 Stufen mehr.

The Dobelstafel is the continuation of the Dobelstraße and goes to the Stafflenbergstraße. First of all you have to tackle 89 steps. After this stage you can go to the right with 14 steps or to the left with 16 steps.

Impressions Of A Brief Visit In Gerlingen

Wie gesagt, leider war nicht genügend Zeit, Gerlingen zu erkunden. Deshalb vorerst nur diese zwei Beispiele für die gut erhaltenen oder restaurierten Fachwerkhäuser.

We haven't had enough time to visit Gerlingen as you know. Therefore I can only present these two examples of well-preserved or restored half-timbered houses.

Leider hatten wir nicht genügend Zeit, um dieses Etablissement in Gerlingen zu besuchen.Was kann aus dem Namen geschlossen werden? Ich werde es herausfinden, versprochen.

Impressions From Esslingen's Christmas Market

Gestern waren wir in Esslingen am Neckar. Natürlich haben wir den Weihnachtsmarkt und den Mittelaltermarkt besucht. Wir waren begeistert, insbesondere der Mittelaltermarkt mit seinen typischen Attraktionen hat uns sehr gefallen. Ein Besuch lohnt sich in jedem Falle. Gerade bei Einbruch der Dunkelheit ist es dort sehr stimmungsvoll.

Yesterday we were in Esslingen which is located on the Neckar River, about 14 km southeast of Stuttgart city centre. We've visited the Christmas Market and the Medieval Market. We were stoked about them. In particular we enjoyed the Medieval Market and its specific attractions. A visit of these two wonderful markets is worthwhile. They're very atmospheric right in the evening.

The Following Drama Unfolded

Ein Blick von der neuen Fußgängerbrücke zwischen Stadtbahnhaltestelle Türlenstraße und Stadtbibliothek. Unter der vielbefahrenen Heilbronner Straße ist die Haltestelle. Ich habe das Bild ja auch nur wegen des Gebäudes mit dem Stuttgart-Schriftzug gemacht. Das Gebäude beherbergt zur Zeit noch das Schauspiel Stuttgart, wird aber abgerissen, so dass sich das Schauspiel nach einer neuen Bleibe umschauen muss. Siehe Kommentar

View from the newly-created footbridge between station Tuerlenstrasse and public library. The station is situated under the busy street named Heilbronner Strasse. I made this shot because of the building with the green neon writing. This building shelters a cultural institution named Schauspiel Stuttgart. The building will be demolished so the Schauspiel needs a new "doss". See the comment.

Help Him, Please

Der Name dieser Statue lautet "Knabe in Gefahr" und stammt von dem Bildhauer Johann Wilhelm Rösch. Das Original wurde im zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört. Ach ja, der Standort: dieser Bronzeabguss befindet sich zwischen Rathaus und Restaurant "Bootshaus" in Remseck.

The name of the statue is "Boy In Danger" and is the work of the sculptor Johann Wilhelm Roesch of Wuerttemberg. The original sculpture was destroyed in WW2. This is a bronze replica and it is situated between town-hall and restaurant "Bootshaus" in Remseck.

Zwei Details der Statue. Hätte ich von der Statue gewusst, dann hätte ich selbstverständlich auch die Gefahrenquelle, nämlich ein Insekt, fotografiert.

There Are Two Bridges To Be Crossed

In Remseck. Die erste Brücke führt über den Neckar und wurde 1991 mit dem "Europäischen Holzleimbaupreis für Brettschichtholz-Konstruktionen" ausgezeichnet. Die zweite baugleiche Brücke führt über die Rems.

In Remseck. The first bridge crosses the river Neckar. It was awarded with the "European Glulam Award for Glued Laminated Timber Constructions" in 1991. The second bridge is identical in construction and crosses the river Rems.

A Place For Children

Bei dem "Pony Hügel" handelt es sich nicht um eine Pferderennbahn oder um ein Gestüt ...

The "pony hill" is neither a racecourse nor a stud ...

... sondern um einen Kinderspielplatz. Viele Bäume und Sträucher und natürlich auch Spielgeräte stehen hier. Und die Eltern haben die Möglichkeit für einen Plausch.

... but a children's playground. There are many trees and bushes and, of course, playground equipment. The parents get to be on speaking terms.

High Visibility

Fast ein ganzes Quadrat in der Tübinger Straße wurde dem Erdboden gleich gemacht. Nur ein paar denkmalgeschützte Gebäude und eine Kirche sind unversehrt geblieben.

Almost a whole square at Tübinger Straße was razed to the ground. Only some listed buildings and a church remained undamaged.

Nun ist der Blick auf die Auferstehungskirche frei. Aber nicht für lange. Denn bis 2014 soll hier das "Gerber" mit Geschäften, Büros und Wohnungen entstehen.

Now you have an unencumbered view to the Church Of The Resurrection. But you have to hurry to enjoy it. There will be a new area with shops, offices and apartments named "Gerber" until 2014.

Stuttgart Works On Its New Skyline

That Shy-Seeming Church

Die Alt-Katholische Kirche St. Katharina am Katharinenplatz/Ecke Olgastraße wirkt durch die vielen Bäume und Sträucher recht schüchtern. Leider konnte ich nicht hinein, viele Kirchen sind aus Furcht vor Vandalismus geschlossen und nur zu Gottesdiensten und anderen feierlichen Gelegenheiten geöffnet.

The Old-Catholic church named St Katharina is situated at Katharinenplatz and Olgastraße. It seems a little bit shy because of the trees and bushes. Unfortunately I wasn't able to visit the inside. Many churches are closed lest they should fall prey to vandalism. They are only open for services and other ceremonial occasions.

Stuttgart Doorways #13

Das ist der Eingang zur "Technischen Oberschule" am Olgaeck ...

This is the main portal of a school named "Technische Oberschule". It is a school where young people can get the advanced technical college entrance qualification or the subject-specific baccalaureate.

This is the building in all its glory.

Illusoriness

Auf den ersten Blick könnte das die Einfahrt zur Tiefgarage für das Hochhaus sein. In Wirklichkeit gehört sie aber zum Hotel Wörtz.

At first glance this is the garage doorway of the skyscraper. In reality it appertains to the Wörtz hotel.
