What A Mess! #2

Start der feierlichen Eröffnung durch das Neckarsäule und der "Chefin" und Begründerin des Schweinemuseums, Frau Erika Wilhelmer.

The Neckarsäule and the manageress and founder of the museum, Mrs. Erika Wilhelmer, have started the official agenda.

Anschließend sprachen der Sohn der Chefin und Gastronom, Herr Michael Wilhelmer (links im Bild) und der Oberbürgermeister der Stadt Stuttgart, Dr. Wolfgang Schuster.

What A Mess! #1

Nun gibt es in Stuttgart noch ein weiteres Museum. Am 01. Mai wurde im Alten Stuttgarter Schlachthof das "weltgrößte" Schweinemuseum  feierlich eröffnet. Es gab jede Menge VIPs, es wurden Reden gehalten, es gab zu Essen und zu Trinken, das Wetter spielte mit und die Stimmung war prächtig.

There is a new museum in town. On the First of May (May Day) the "world's largest" pig's museum was inaugurated. There were a lot of VIPs, a lot of speeches, food and drinks are provided for the guests, the weather was agreeable and the mood was good.

Im Mittelpunkt stand das "Neckarsäule", also "kleine Sau vom Neckar", denn im Schwäbischen wird vieles mit der Endung "-le" verniedlicht (z.B. Spätzle, Scheißerle, Mauldäschle). Fortsetzung morgen ...

The Neckarsäule (little sow from the river Neckar) was really an eye-catcher. The Swabian dialect knows the ending "-le" for all minimizations. To be continued ...

Hocketse #2

Deftiges vom Grill, Bier vom Fass, natürlich Wein und alkoholfreie Getränke wurden feilgeboten.
Solid meals from the barbie, keg beer, Swabian wine and nonalcoholic beverages were offered.

Hocketse #1

Heute und morgen möchte ich ein paar Impressionen der Mai-Hocketse vom Heslacher Bihlplatz präsentieren. Bei einer Hocketse handelt es sich schlicht und ergreifend um ein geselliges Beisammensein, man plaudert bzw. schwätzt ein wenig, dazu wird selbstverständlich gegessen und getrunken. Auf dem ersten Bild ist der Maibaum zu sehen. Zu den blauen Socken werde ich mich noch zu einem anderen Zeitpunkt äußern.

I want to show you some impressions from the Hocketse on Bihlplatz in Heslach. Hocketse is a Swabian word for a get-together where you schmooze with friends or neighbours. Needless to say that there is enough to drink and to eat. On the first shot you see the maypole. Do you realize the blue socks? I want to explain their meaning at a later date. This documentation will be continued tomorrow.

The last two photos shows the wind orchestra of the SSB, short hand for "Stuttgarter Strassenbahn AG", which is the transportation company for Stuttgart.

May 2010 Theme Day: Statues

Heute ist wieder ein Monatsanfang und somit wieder Gelegenheit für einen Thementag. Der 1. Mai 2010 steht unter dem Moto "Statuen, Standbilder". Ich habe mich für das Reiterstandbild Kaiser Wilhelm I. auf dem Karlsplatz in der Nähe der Markthalle entschieden. Das erste Foto zeigt das eigentliche Standbild, das zweite die Gesamtanlage. Umgeben von herrlichen Kastanien und unter dem Schutz des Kaisers ist Platz für romantische Aktivitäten.

Today is the beginning of a month again. Today is theme day. "Statues" is the theme for that First of May 2010. I've decided for the equestrian statue of the German Emperor Wilhelm I. on Karlsplatz near market hall. The first shot shows the detailed statue, the second photo shows the entire complex. There is the opportunity for romatic activities surrounded by amazing chestnuts and under the emperor's protection.

Park And Art

Kunst auf dem Parkplatz des Hauptzollamtes Stuttgart. Der Rost ist auch Kunst. In Deutschland soll jedermann die Möglichkeit haben, Kunst zu genießen. Daher gilt das Motto "Kunst im öffentlichen Raum".

Art on the parking in front of the building of the main customs office. The rust is art too. In Germany everybody should get to enjoy art. Therefore "Art In The Public Sphere" does apply.

Jogging And Talking With Dog

Es war ein herrlicher Tag, um im Wald mit dem Kumpel zu laufen und zu quatschen und sogar noch den Hund auszuführen. Wer sagt da noch, wir Männer seien nicht multitaskingfähig?

It was a lovely day to jogging in the forest and to talking with the best friend and to taking the dog out in the meantime. Who wants to assert that men are not able to multitask?

Stuttgart Skywatch #3

Unzählige Male bin ich schon diesen Weg gelaufen, habe nie die wunderbare Sicht auf den Fernsehturm erfasst. Aber seit dem ich blogge, sehe ich viele Dinge anders. Auch den scheinbar aus dem Waldboden wachsenden Turm.

I walked this way umpteen times and I've never realized the amazing view to the TV tower. But now I'm a blogger and I see many things in a different way. The TV tower could grow up from the forest soil, couldn't it?

A Little Bit Frisco Feeling In Stuttgart

Wenn man vom Eugensplatz in Richtung Olgaeck schaut, hat man das Gefühl, auf den Straßen von San Francisco zu stehen. Leider gibt das Foto diesen Eindruck nicht so stark wider. Ich kann daher nur empfehlen, sich persönlich davon zu überzeugen. Gleich ein paar Schritte links von diesem Standpunkt gibt es köstliches italienisches Eis (siehe meinen Post von gestern), rechts davon ein schattiges oder ein sonniges Plätzchen zum Genießen.

If you look from Eugensplatz to Olgaeck you could believe to stand on a street of San Francisco. Unfortunately the photo doesn't reflect this effect. I recommend you to make sure personally. Some steps to the left from this photo position away you get a delicious Italian ice-cream (see my yesterday's post). Some steps to the right there is a sunny or shadowy place to enjoy.

Relief From The Sun's Heat

Kaum erwärmt die Sonne die Luft, steht den Menschen schon wieder der Sinn nach Abkühlung. Oft heißt es für ein leckeres Eis "Anstehen" beim Eis-Bistro "Pinguin" am Eugensplatz. Während des Fotografierens war die Schlange nicht gar so lang, aber im Sommer oder an wärmeren Tagen braucht man schon etwas Geduld.

No sooner had the sun warmed up the air than the people want to get cooling. At the ice cream parlour "Pinguin" at the Eugensplatz you've often to line up for a delicious ice. During my shooting the queue wasn't not long. In summer or on warmer days you need a lot of patience.

Stuttgart Doorways #1

Das Haus, zu dem diese Türe gehört, befindet sich in Heslach. Es wird immer mal wieder, wenn genügend Geld und Materialien vorhanden sind, ausgebessert, geflickt und abgedichtet.

This doorway is part of a very old house in Heslach. The house is under construction. The owner repairs, patched and packs if there is enough money to buy materials again.

Picture With Concrete And Dandelion

Es ist nicht wirklich spektakulär, das heutige Foto. Aber der Grünstreifen mit dem Löwenzahn hat mich dennoch zu einem Post angeregt. Im Hintergrund eine mächtige Kastanie, die schon bald wieder in voller Blüte stehen wird.

The today's photo is not really spectacular. I see that green area with the lovely dandelion every day on my way to work. It has assured me for a post. In the background you see a big chestnut tree. It is green now, but in a few days it will be in full bloom.

Royal

Denkmal für König Wilhelm II. (und seine Hunde?) vor dem, wie kann es anders sein, Wilhelmspalais. Es steht fast immer ein Blumenstrauß oder eine Topfpflanze vor dem König, wie auch im Bild gut zu erkennen. Von einem Verwandten? Oder von einem "Königstreuen"?

Monument for king Wilhelm the Second and his dogs in front of the Wilhelmspalais. There is almost every day a bouquet of flowers or a potted plant at the monument. Is it from a descendant? Or from a royalist?

Perceptions

Stuttgart Daily Photo On The Way

Grüße vom Bodensee. Von dieser Stelle hat man bei klarem Wetter eine wunderbare Sicht auf den Bodensee und die Alpen. Leider war es heute wieder sehr diesig. Ob es wohl an einem gewissen isländischen Vulkan liegt?

How Time Flies

Mal abgesehen von dem Kreisverkehr und den Oberleitungen für die Stadtbahn, hat sich der Ostendplatz doch kaum verändert, oder?
Apart from the roundabout and the catenary for the city railway, the Ostendplatz has changed marginal.

Drink Beer Responsibly

Es grenzt schon fast an Ironie, dieses Hinweisschild neben der Bierwerbung. Andererseits kann man nicht oft genug vor dem ausufernden Alkoholkonsum warnen. Aber ob man in solch einer Situation noch zu Fuß ins Marienhospital gelangen kann ...?

The information sign beside the beer advertising appears a little bit ironic. On the other hand it's very important to warn against excessive consumption of alcohol and its effects. Is it possible to walk to the hospital in such situation?

Be A Bürger Meister

Hungrig, aber nicht zu hungrig? Dann ist doch ein Becher Mini-Maultaschen, also Mauldäschle, genau das Richtige. Ich selbst habe es noch nicht ausprobiert, werde es aber garantiert nachholen, versprochen.

Are you hungry? But just a little? How about a cup of small Maultaschen. It's a traditional Swabian food, a mixture of minced meat, spinach, breadcrumb and onions flavoured with salt, pepper and parsley and covered with pasta dough. Unfortunately I haven't tried it myself, but I will make up for it. Promise!

Stuttgart Skywatch #2

Wenn man auf das Bild klickt und vergrößert, dann kann man sogar den Schriftzug lesen - WIR WOLLEN WULLE heißt es da, ein Werbespruch der Brauerei Dinkelacker-Schwabenbräu in Stuttgart für das wiederbelebte Wulle-Bier.

If you click on the photo to enlarge it then you can read the slogan on the banner - WIR WOLLEN WOLLE (WE WANT WULLE). It's an advertising slogan of the brewery Dinkelacker-Schwabenbraeu in Stuttgart. Wulle was a independent brewery until 1971, the Wulle-trademark became a part of Dinkelacker.

Haunt, Or: A Place For The Certain Something

Dieses Toilettenhäuschen hat eine im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes "bewegte" Geschichte. Denn es stand nicht immer an diesem Platz und sah nicht immer so gepflegt aus. Im Zuge von Umbauarbeiten für die Stadtbahn wurde das unter Denkmalschutz stehende Örtchen abgebaut und nur wenige Schritte entfernt hier wieder aufgebaut.

This privy has literally a "moving" history. It was removed because of structural alteration works for the tram. The loo is declared as a listed monument. Therefore it was rebuilt at this place a few steps shied of the old place. Now it looks as good as new.

What A Nice View

Relax

Endlich ist der Winter fort. Die Sonne scheint, die Vögel zwitschern, es grünt und blüht, es riecht nach Erde. Warum nicht in den Villa Berg Park gehen und das alles genießen? Oder, wie es der Zweck des auf dem Foto abgebildeten Bauwerks zu sein scheint, ein paar Entspannungsübungen machen. Das "Gebäude" stammt übrigens noch von der Internationalen Gartenbauausstellung 1993.

At last the winter has gone. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, all the plants will be in full bloom soon, it smells like fresh ground. Why not to go to the park of Villa Berg to enjoy all that? You can also make relaxation exercises in the pictured construction which is a relict of an International Garden Festival in 1993.

Black Bird

Noch ein Überbleibsel der ehemaligen DDR - eine schwarze Schwalbe, gesehen in Heslach. Und zwar in der Hohentwielstraße, die hier am Heslacher Friedhof entlangführt. Vielleicht deshalb Schwarz ...?

Colours

Dieses "Kunstwerk" (?) gehört nicht etwa zu einem Kindergarten oder einer Malschule oder einer Gemäldegalerie. Nein, sie steht auf dem Gelände der Wilhelm-Hauff-Schule, einer Grundschule in Heslach. Links steht, wie kann es anders sein, der TV-Turm.

This "artwork" (isn't it ?) is not a part of a kindergarten or a painting school or a picture gallery. It's situated on the area of the Wilhelm-Hauff school, a school for kids from 6 to 10, in Heslach. You can see the TV tower in the top left-hand corner of this photo too.

Altes Feuerwehrhaus

Das Alte Feuerwehrhaus in Heslach vom Erwin-Schoettle-Platz aus gesehen. 1887 bis 1888 erbaut, diente das Gebäude bis 1913 als Magazin für die Heslacher Feuerwehr. Anschließend wurde es u. a. als Suppenküche oder Knabenhort genutzt. 1978 - 1980 wurde das Alte Feuerwehrhaus restauriert. Heute ist dort ein Kultur- und Bürgerzentrum ansässig.

The Old Fire Station in Heslach seen from the Erwin-Schoettle-Platz. It was built from 1887 to 1888 and was used as a depot of the fire brigade of Heslach until 1913. Afterwards it was used as soup kitchen or as a boy's nursery. The Station was rebuilt from 1978 to 1980. Now there is a cultural centre and a people's meeting place.

Attention: You Could Get Wet

Noch näher kann man den Wasserspeiern des Alten Feuerwehrhauses in Heslach nicht kommen. Leider ist auch die Sicht auf die Wasserspeier vom Turmfenster aus nicht perfekt. Ich hoffe, man kann sich dennoch ein Bild von der fabelhaften Ausführung der Arbeit machen.

You see one of four ancient gargoyles which are installed at the tower of the old fire station in Heslach. The angle is not perfect. But I hope you can get an idea of the fabulous workmanship.

Bridge Over Busy Parking (My 100th Post)

Ich weiß, zu meinem 100. Post hätte es schon ein Knaller sein sollen, aber ich will auf dem Boden bleiben. Zu sehen ist die Nesenbach-Talbrücke (oder auch Kaltentalbrücke) in Heslach, Richtung Stadteinwärts. Sie ist eine wichtige Verbindung zwischen Stuttgart und Leonberg und den Autobahnen A8 und A81. Unter der Brücke ist der geschäftige ALDI-Parkplatz zu sehen.

This today's post is not a hit, but I want to be well grounded. You see the bridge over the Nesenbach valley in Heslach direction into town. The bridge is very important for the traffic to and from Stuttgart, you can reach the highways, in German Autobahnen, A8 and A81. Under the bridge you can see the busy parking of ALDI.

Your Wish Is My Command

An dieser Stelle nun, wie von einigen gewünscht, ein Foto aus der hier schon erwähnten Stiftskirche. Es ist eine evangelische Kirche, Hauptkirche der Evangelischen Landeskirche in Württemberg und Stuttgarts ältestes erhaltenes Gebäude. Auf dem Bild zu sehen sind die Standbilder der Württembergischen Grafen.

Today I post this photo from the inner Stiftskirche by request of some visitors of my blog. It is an evangelic church, main church of the Evangelic Church of Wuerttemberg and the oldest building in Stuttgart. You see the statues of the Wuerttemberg counts from 1234 to 1519.

Asian-Swabian Alliance

Das ehrwürdige Restaurant Pflugfelder, berühmt für seine handgeschabten Spätzle, existiert schon seit einigen Jahren nicht mehr. Geblieben ist lediglich das wunderbar gearbeitete Wirtshausschild. Nachfolger ist nun ein chinesisches Restaurant.

The dignified restaurant "Pflugfelder" was famous for its handmade "Spätzle", a special  ingredient for a Swabian meal. But unfortunately it has closed several years ago. Now there is a Chinese restaurant.

April 2010 Theme Day: Red

Heidenei, schon wieder ein "blogreicher" Monat vorüber. Somit ist es also wieder Zeit für ein besonderes Thema zum Monatsanfang. Heute geht es sehr einfarbig zu, denn das Thema zum heutigen 1. April lautet schlicht und ergreifend "ROT". Das lässt wirklich Raum für Interpretationen. Dank gebührt meiner Frau Judith, die mich überzeugte, doch die Roten Würste (kurz: Rote), also besondere Bratwürste im süddeutschen Raum, zu fotografieren. Das habe ich also bei der Metzgerei Kübler getan.

A busy month has passed by again! The first of a new month already! The CDPB theme today is RED. It's enough opportunity to interprete. Thanks to my wife Judith for the great idea to shoot "reds", special sausages in Swabia and Southern Baden. I've done it at Kueblers butchery.
