From Shopping Mall To Shopping Mall

Das "Milaneo" (Mailändle) / The Milaneo

Das Europa-Viertel beginnt sozusagen im "Milaneo", gleich neben Stadtbücherei und Baustelle. Eröffnung war im Oktober diesen Jahres. Geht man Richtung Hauptbahnhof und weiter die Königstraße und Marienstraße entlang, landet man unweigerlich am "Gerber" (Eröffnung im Septemner). Zu Fuß sind es etwa 2,5 Kilometer (Luftlinie 2,11 km).

The quarter named Europa-Viertel (European quarter) begins in the Milaneo, a shopping mall which was opened in October this year. If you would go in the direction of main-station and in further course along Königstraße and Marienstraße you'll end up inevitably at the other new-opened (in September) shopping centre named Gerber. The beeline from mall to mall is approx. 2.11 km.

The Königsbau building was wraped in orange light on this Saturday. There was "Late Night Shopping" in the city.

There's No Business Like Snow Business

Blick in die verschneite Königstraße. Nun ja, viel Schnee liegt nicht mehr. Dennoch muss bei vielen Menschen die Lust auf einen Weihnachtseinkauf groß gewesen sein. Wegen des Weihnachtsmarktes findet zudem auch der Wochenmarkt auf der Königstraße statt.

Once The Buildings Are Completed They Will Cast A Cloud Over The Books

Das ist die Baustelle für das "Milaneo", ein Gebäudekomplex mit Geschäften, Büros, Wohnungen und einem Hotel. Wenn die Bauarbeiten beendet sind, dann stehen die Bücher der Bibliothek 21 im Schatten.

This is the building site for the "Milaneo". It will be a complex of buildings with shops, offices, apartements and a hotel. When the construction works are finished the books in the library will live in the shadows.

Here People Can Shopping Already Today

Shoveling Today, Shopping Tomorrow

Heute: schippen. Morgen: shoppen. Unter diesem Motto entsteht zur Zeit das "Gerber", ein neuer Gebäudekomplex für Einkaufen, Büros und Wohnungen mitten in der Stadt.

Today: Shoveling. Tomorrow: Shopping. This is the motto for the "Gerber" which will be a new and gigantic building complex for shopping, working and habitation in the city centre.

Shopping In Rot

An der Haldenrainstraße in S-Rot befinden sich jede Menge kleiner Geschäfte. Zum Teil werden auch neue Mieter gesucht. Das Besondere ist, dass diese Läden sich nicht ebenerdig zur Straße befinden. So kann man sich beim Schaufensterbummel wie auf einem Laufsteg fühlen.

There are dozens of small shops on Haldenrainstraße in Rot. Some of them are looking for new lessees. The shops are not at the same level as the street. It's remarkable. So you can feel going on a catwalk while you go window shopping.

Local Commodities

In Zazenhausen fiel mir dieses eher unauffällige Schaufenster auf. Dort werden Bier-, Milch- und andere Krüge zum Kauf angeboten. Die Krüge nehmen Bezug auf die umliegenden Ortsteile, z.B. "Zuffenhäuser Weizen" und "Mühlhäuser Krug". Mönchfeld konnte ich leider nicht entdecken. Ausverkauft? Werde mal nachfragen.

An unremarkable showcase in Zazenhausen caught my eyes. Steins, milk mugs and other clay jugs are on offer there. The pitchers refer to the surrounding districts. So they are decorated with letterings like "Zuffenhäuser Weizen" or "Mühlhäuser Krug". I couldn't find "my" district Mönchfeld. Sold out? I'll check with the shopkeeper.

Peak Stuttgart

Dieses Gebäude gehört wahrlich nicht zu den Juwelen Stuttgarts. Aber es beherbergt u.a. ein Sportgeschäft mit dem Namen "Peak Stuttgart". 

This building doesn't belong to our jewels. But it houses a sport outfitters which is named "Peak Stuttgart".

Ich dachte mir, das könnte auch ein neues Motiv für meine Kopfzeile sein.

I thought the shop window could be a new theme for my header.

Reserve And Openness

The small shop named "The English Tearoom" and the Weible's bakery make no fuss about themselves.

This shop offers model cars and railways, compact disks and much more. You can buy and sell your toys and aged records there. The big showcases request you to stop for beholding the wares.

Open On Sundays

Die Kirche St. Georg am Pragfriedhof hat auch am Sonntag geöffnet. Dies soll eine Anspielung auf die vielen verkaufsoffenen Sonntage sein.

The Catholic church St. Georg is open on Sundays. The slogan is an allusion to the shops and shopping centres which are open on Sundays from time to time. I know that many large stores in the US and in Great Britain are open on Sundays, it's normal. But it's unusual in Germany.

Kids' Stuff

Es ist wieder Zeit für die Kinderkleiderbasare. Wir waren diesmal in der "Zehntscheuer" in Zuffenhausen. Es gab gebrauchte, selten oder nie getragene Kinderbekleidung, Kinderspielzeug und was das Kind sonst noch benötigt zum kleinen Preis. Auf dem Platz vor dem Gebäude gab es Spiel- und Bastelecken für die Kleinen.

It's time for bazaars for childrens' stuff again. We were in Zuffenhausen in the "Zehntscheuer" (tithe' barn). There were used and new clothes, toys and other needful things at good prices. Some kids areas were arranged on the place in front of the historical building.

Light Shopping

We're in the shopping mall named "Königsbau Passagen Stuttgart" at Schlossplatz. This is the view from ground floor to the glass roof of this "Cathedral of Consumption".

A Place For Working, Shopping And Entertainment

Blick auf eines der vielen Gebäude des sogenannten "Bosch-Areals". Hier gibt es Büros, Läden, Restaurants sowie kulturelle Einrichtungen. Als ich durch die vielen hellen Passagen gegangen war, haben mich deren Ausmaße sehr erstaunt.

View to a building of the "Bosch-Areal". Here Robert Bosch has founded a workshop for precision mechanics and electrical engineering. There are many offices, shops, restaurants and some cultural facilities. When I finished my walk through the clear areaways I was astonished about their dimensions.

Hier ein Blick in eine der vielen Passagen. Es ist sehr hell und freundlich wegen der Glasdächer, bei intensivem Sonnenschein, wie im Juli, aber auch sehr warm.

Shopping In The Time Of FIFA World Cup 2010

In Zeiten der Fußball WM bleibt so manche, sonst gut frequentierte, Einkaufspassage leer. Das Bild zeigt die Calwer Passage in der Stadtmitte. Kleine Läden und Cafés sind hier angesiedelt.

Some shopping arcades are empty in the time of FIFA World Cup. You see the "Calwer Passage" in the city centre which is normally well attended. There are some small shops and coffee bars.

New York hat seine Fifth Avenue, Paris hat die Avenue des Champs-Élysées, London hat die Oxford Street und Stuttgart? Hat die Königstraße. Unzählige Geschäfte laden zum Geldausgeben ein und wenn man dann noch etwas übrig hat, kann man sich anschließend in einem der Cafes oder Restaurants von der Einkaufstour erholen...
New York has the 5th Ave., Paris has the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, London has the Oxford Street. And STUTTGART? We have the Koenigstrasse. There are countless shops which invite to spend money. Afterwards you can relax in a few cafés and restaurants if you have enough money after the shopping.
