October 2014 Theme Day: Movement

Nicht nur Personen werden in Stuttgart bewegt, sondern auch jede Menge Aushub. Am Nordbahnhof werden Lkw's ent- und Güterwaggons beladen. Dieser Erdaushub wird anschließend zu Entladestellen rund um Stuttgart transportiert.

Not only people are moved in Stuttgart, but also a lot of excavation. At the S-Bahn station Nordbahnhof trucks are unloaded and freight cars are loaded. Afterwards this earth excavation is transported to discharging stations all around Stuttgart.

Not Active Anymore

Diese Maschine wurde zu einem Kunstwerk umfunkioniert und steht nun vor der Steinbeisschule, eine gewerbliche Schule für Bautechnik, in S-Nord.

This machine was channeled into an artwork. It is situated in front of a vocational school for civil engineering named Steinbeisschule in the North of Stuttgart.

Colourful Benches Made By Kids

Farbenfrohe Bänke gibt es in der Nordbahnhofstraße zu sehen. Kinder und Jugendliche haben hier fantasievoll Hand angelegt.

These colourful benches are situated at Nordbahnhofstraße. Kids and teens must have worked hard to get these imaginative results.

Ein zweiteiliges Stahlgebilde ziert die Front des Toto-Lotto-Hauses. Ob es wohl auch mit den Geldern der Lottospieler finanziert wurde?

Das ist das imposante "Toto Lotto Haus am Löwentor" in der Nordbahnhofstraße zwischen Löwentor und Nordbahnhof. Es beherbergt die "Staatliche Toto-Lotto GmbH Baden-Württemberg". Werden hier Träume wahr?

This impressive building is named "Toto Lotto Haus am Löwentor" and it is situated at Nordbahnhofstraße between Löwentor and Nordbahnhof. It houses the "Staatliche Toto-Lotto GmbH Baden-Württemberg" (the state-owned lottery and sweepstake company). Will dreams come true here?

The Loco-Motion, Update 2

Die neue Schule neben den Wagenhallen nimmt Gestalt an. Ob hier dieses Jahr noch gebüffelt werden kann?

The new school besides the Wagenhallen assumes its definite form. If the students can swot up on their subjects still this year?

Shadows Of The Past

5 Gleise sind geblieben, um an die Deportationen, die vom Nordbahnhof aus durchgeführt wurden, zu erinnern. Eingerahmt wird die Gedenkstätte mit einer beeindruckenden und bedrückenden Dokumentaion. So sind auch alle Namen der von den Deportationen Betroffenen in der Wand eingelassen.

Five tracks are left over to commemorate the deportations which were started from the Nordbahnhof. The memorial place is framed by an impressive and oppressive documentation. So you can read all the names of the persons who were deported. The names are written on the wall.

The Loco-Motion, Update 1

Wo sind die Wagenhallen? Sie wurden nicht abgerissen, sondern befinden sich hinter dem Rohbau.

Where are the "Wagenhallen"? This architectural ensemble which is used as an artists' colony is situated behind the skeleton.

The Way Home

Es gibt eine Menge zu sehen, am Nordbahnhof. Ein kurzer Blick zurück, Richtung Hauptbahnhof. Jetzt muss ich mich aber mit der Stadtbahn auf den Heimweg machen.

There are many places of interest at Nordbahnhof. A short view back towards main station. Now I have to start back for home. The tram will arrive in a few minutes.

Barefoot In The Park

Gegenüber vom Bülow-Turm, auf der anderen Seite der Heilbronner Straße, ist ein weiterer Park - der Wartberg. Von hier gelangt man zum Höhenpark Killesberg.

There is another lovely park across from the Bülow tower. It's called Wartberg. From here you can go to the Killesberkpark.

Wenn man die "Botschaft" gelesen hat, sollte man etwas näher heran treten. Dann eröffnet sich der Park mit seiner ganzen Vielfalt. Jetzt, im Frühling, wird der Park wieder von Spaziergängern, Radfahrern und Sonnenanbetern bevölkert.

If you've read the message you should approach. The park will open itself with its variety. In spring all the walkers, cyclists and sunbathers return to the park.

The Tower

Das ist der Bülow-Turm am Nordbahnhof aus unterschiedlichen Positionen. Was für einen herrlichen Blick auf Stuttgart muss man von den oberen Stockwerken haben?! Leider kann ich das nicht beantworten, denn es gibt keine Aussichtsplattform.

This is the Bülow tower at Nordbahnhof from different positions. What an amazing view you must have from the upper floors?! Unfortunately I can't serve with an answer. There is no viewing platform.

Come In And Enjoy

Vom Nordbahnhof sind es nur ein paar Schritte bis zum Leibfriedschen Garten. Überquert man die Gleise auf dieser Brücke, befindet man sich in einer sehr schönen kleinen Parkanlage. Es ist ein sehr schöner Platz für die Mittagspause. Von hier aus ist auch nicht mehr weit zum Rosensteinpark.

There are only some steps from Nordbahnhof to a parkway named Leibfriedscher Garten. If you cross the tracks on this footbridge you're in a lovely small park. It's a wonderful place to have your luchtime. Form here you can go to Rosensteinpark.

Blick auf die Wagenhallen am Nordbahnhof. Hier haben sich viele Künstler niedergelassen. Konzerte und Ausstellungen locken viele Kunstfreunde an. Auf dem Baugelände davor entsteht ein Neubau für die Kaufmännische Schule.

View to an architectural ensemble named "Wagenhallen" at Nordbahnhof. The buildings were used as a locomotive garage. Many artists are settled down here. You can visit concerts and special exhibitions. There will be a vocational school at the building plot in front of the artists' colony.
