Grüße vom Bodensee. Von dieser Stelle hat man bei klarem Wetter eine wunderbare Sicht auf den Bodensee und die Alpen. Leider war es heute wieder sehr diesig. Ob es wohl an einem gewissen isländischen Vulkan liegt?

Mal abgesehen von dem Kreisverkehr und den Oberleitungen für die Stadtbahn, hat sich der Ostendplatz doch kaum verändert, oder?
Apart from the roundabout and the catenary for the city railway, the Ostendplatz has changed marginal.

Es grenzt schon fast an Ironie, dieses Hinweisschild neben der Bierwerbung. Andererseits kann man nicht oft genug vor dem ausufernden Alkoholkonsum warnen. Aber ob man in solch einer Situation noch zu Fuß ins Marienhospital gelangen kann ...?

The information sign beside the beer advertising appears a little bit ironic. On the other hand it's very important to warn against excessive consumption of alcohol and its effects. Is it possible to walk to the hospital in such situation?

Be A Bürger Meister

Hungrig, aber nicht zu hungrig? Dann ist doch ein Becher Mini-Maultaschen, also Mauldäschle, genau das Richtige. Ich selbst habe es noch nicht ausprobiert, werde es aber garantiert nachholen, versprochen.

Are you hungry? But just a little? How about a cup of small Maultaschen. It's a traditional Swabian food, a mixture of minced meat, spinach, breadcrumb and onions flavoured with salt, pepper and parsley and covered with pasta dough. Unfortunately I haven't tried it myself, but I will make up for it. Promise!

Stuttgart Skywatch #2

Wenn man auf das Bild klickt und vergrößert, dann kann man sogar den Schriftzug lesen - WIR WOLLEN WULLE heißt es da, ein Werbespruch der Brauerei Dinkelacker-Schwabenbräu in Stuttgart für das wiederbelebte Wulle-Bier.

If you click on the photo to enlarge it then you can read the slogan on the banner - WIR WOLLEN WOLLE (WE WANT WULLE). It's an advertising slogan of the brewery Dinkelacker-Schwabenbraeu in Stuttgart. Wulle was a independent brewery until 1971, the Wulle-trademark became a part of Dinkelacker.

Haunt, Or: A Place For The Certain Something

Dieses Toilettenhäuschen hat eine im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes "bewegte" Geschichte. Denn es stand nicht immer an diesem Platz und sah nicht immer so gepflegt aus. Im Zuge von Umbauarbeiten für die Stadtbahn wurde das unter Denkmalschutz stehende Örtchen abgebaut und nur wenige Schritte entfernt hier wieder aufgebaut.

This privy has literally a "moving" history. It was removed because of structural alteration works for the tram. The loo is declared as a listed monument. Therefore it was rebuilt at this place a few steps shied of the old place. Now it looks as good as new.

Relax

Endlich ist der Winter fort. Die Sonne scheint, die Vögel zwitschern, es grünt und blüht, es riecht nach Erde. Warum nicht in den Villa Berg Park gehen und das alles genießen? Oder, wie es der Zweck des auf dem Foto abgebildeten Bauwerks zu sein scheint, ein paar Entspannungsübungen machen. Das "Gebäude" stammt übrigens noch von der Internationalen Gartenbauausstellung 1993.

At last the winter has gone. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, all the plants will be in full bloom soon, it smells like fresh ground. Why not to go to the park of Villa Berg to enjoy all that? You can also make relaxation exercises in the pictured construction which is a relict of an International Garden Festival in 1993.

Black Bird

Noch ein Überbleibsel der ehemaligen DDR - eine schwarze Schwalbe, gesehen in Heslach. Und zwar in der Hohentwielstraße, die hier am Heslacher Friedhof entlangführt. Vielleicht deshalb Schwarz ...?

Another residue of the ancient G.D.R. - a black moped named "Schwalbe" (swallow) seen in Heslach. I've shooted it in a street which runs alongside a cemetery. Maybe the rider has choosed this colour because of this fact ...

Colours

Dieses "Kunstwerk" (?) gehört nicht etwa zu einem Kindergarten oder einer Malschule oder einer Gemäldegalerie. Nein, sie steht auf dem Gelände der Wilhelm-Hauff-Schule, einer Grundschule in Heslach. Links steht, wie kann es anders sein, der TV-Turm.

This "artwork" (isn't it ?) is not a part of a kindergarten or a painting school or a picture gallery. It's situated on the area of the Wilhelm-Hauff school, a school for kids from 6 to 10, in Heslach. You can see the TV tower in the top left-hand corner of this photo too.

Altes Feuerwehrhaus

Das Alte Feuerwehrhaus in Heslach vom Erwin-Schoettle-Platz aus gesehen. 1887 bis 1888 erbaut, diente das Gebäude bis 1913 als Magazin für die Heslacher Feuerwehr. Anschließend wurde es u. a. als Suppenküche oder Knabenhort genutzt. 1978 - 1980 wurde das Alte Feuerwehrhaus restauriert. Heute ist dort ein Kultur- und Bürgerzentrum ansässig.

The Old Fire Station in Heslach seen from the Erwin-Schoettle-Platz. It was built from 1887 to 1888 and was used as a depot of the fire brigade of Heslach until 1913. Afterwards it was used as soup kitchen or as a boy's nursery. The Station was rebuilt from 1978 to 1980. Now there is a cultural centre and a people's meeting place.

Attention: You Could Get Wet

Noch näher kann man den Wasserspeiern des Alten Feuerwehrhauses in Heslach nicht kommen. Leider ist auch die Sicht auf die Wasserspeier vom Turmfenster aus nicht perfekt. Ich hoffe, man kann sich dennoch ein Bild von der fabelhaften Ausführung der Arbeit machen.

You see one of four ancient gargoyles which are installed at the tower of the old fire station in Heslach. The angle is not perfect. But I hope you can get an idea of the fabulous workmanship.

Bridge Over Busy Parking (My 100th Post)

Ich weiß, zu meinem 100. Post hätte es schon ein Knaller sein sollen, aber ich will auf dem Boden bleiben. Zu sehen ist die Nesenbach-Talbrücke (oder auch Kaltentalbrücke) in Heslach, Richtung Stadteinwärts. Sie ist eine wichtige Verbindung zwischen Stuttgart und Leonberg und den Autobahnen A8 und A81. Unter der Brücke ist der geschäftige ALDI-Parkplatz zu sehen.

This today's post is not a hit, but I want to be well grounded. You see the bridge over the Nesenbach valley in Heslach direction into town. The bridge is very important for the traffic to and from Stuttgart, you can reach the highways, in German Autobahnen, A8 and A81. Under the bridge you can see the busy parking of ALDI.

An dieser Stelle nun, wie von einigen gewünscht, ein Foto aus der hier schon erwähnten Stiftskirche. Es ist eine evangelische Kirche, Hauptkirche der Evangelischen Landeskirche in Württemberg und Stuttgarts ältestes erhaltenes Gebäude. Auf dem Bild zu sehen sind die Standbilder der Württembergischen Grafen.

Today I post this photo from the inner Stiftskirche by request of some visitors of my blog. It is an evangelic church, main church of the Evangelic Church of Wuerttemberg and the oldest building in Stuttgart. You see the statues of the Wuerttemberg counts from 1234 to 1519.

Asian-Swabian Alliance

Das ehrwürdige Restaurant Pflugfelder, berühmt für seine handgeschabten Spätzle, existiert schon seit einigen Jahren nicht mehr. Geblieben ist lediglich das wunderbar gearbeitete Wirtshausschild. Nachfolger ist nun ein chinesisches Restaurant.

The dignified restaurant "Pflugfelder" was famous for its handmade "Spätzle", a special  ingredient for a Swabian meal. But unfortunately it has closed several years ago. Now there is a Chinese restaurant.

April 2010 Theme Day: Red

Heidenei, schon wieder ein "blogreicher" Monat vorüber. Somit ist es also wieder Zeit für ein besonderes Thema zum Monatsanfang. Heute geht es sehr einfarbig zu, denn das Thema zum heutigen 1. April lautet schlicht und ergreifend "ROT". Das lässt wirklich Raum für Interpretationen. Dank gebührt meiner Frau Judith, die mich überzeugte, doch die Roten Würste (kurz: Rote), also besondere Bratwürste im süddeutschen Raum, zu fotografieren. Das habe ich also bei der Metzgerei Kübler getan.

A busy month has passed by again! The first of a new month already! The CDPB theme today is RED. It's enough opportunity to interprete. Thanks to my wife Judith for the great idea to shoot "reds", special sausages in Swabia and Southern Baden. I've done it at Kueblers butchery.
